I’m on fire

A lot of people chuck around the term ‘burnt out’. Myself included.

Because it’s such an overused term, I looked up the dictionary definition of ‘burnt out’. I found many definitions concerning motor parts and an engine literally burning out. But some other descriptions did come up. These concerning working one’s self to exhaustion or to ‘ruin one’s health’.

And I got thinking about my own current health status. And I don’t think I am burnt out. Yet. But I am on my way. I would say I am burning. Or I am on fire.

And I’ve decided it’s time for me to practice what I preach. If you’ve been following The Extra Ounce for a while you’ll know some of the main things I talk about are self-care and boundaries. And lately I’ve been pretty bad at both.

My friends have been pointing this out to me. Usually, the last thing I say when parting with a friend is ‘Take care of yourself.’ This is usually met with a cuddle and a ‘You too.’ But lately I have been coping ‘YOU take care of YOURSELF!’

And they are right. I’ve lost track of my priorities lately. And I am about two inches away from being burnt out. That’s why I’ve decided to take some time off from social media. This coincides with my trip to New Zealand with J next week. You wont be hearing from me on here or Instagram for two weeks.

It is my hope that I can use this time out in nature to reflect and get in touch with my values and what’s really important. I need to ground myself and really look after myself: in body, mind and soul. I need this time to learn how to say ‘no’ to things again.

So I guess I’ll talk to you in two weeks.

Btw, if you clocked the Nick Cave/Bruce Springsteen reference in the title you get a *virtual hug* for having good music taste.

Catch you soon. Hopefully when the flames have been tamed.

Take care. xx
